When we think of pigs, we usually think of bacon, ham, and pork chops.
And, of course, Miss Piggy, from the muppets.
What do we really know about pigs?
Livestock experts and other scientists have discovered that this multi-purpose animal is a lot like the family dog.
Pigs know their own names, can recognize friends, have very sensitive snouts and skin, and have unique personalities.
Mother pigs “sing” to their piglets.
And pigs can play fetch.
Yes, they can play fetch.
And sit, stay and can follow other commands too.
A few pigs have even been taught to play video games.
They do know how to have fun!
And that has been scientifically proven.
They can even get sunburned!

Many surgical techniques have been taught using pigs because their organs are similar in size to those of humans,

Certain hormones in the brain were identified using pigs.
So, the next time you sit down to a meal of pork chops or ham or your breakfast bacon, say a prayer of thanks for the pig.
