Jump From The Merry-Go-Round Into The Kitchen

Jump from the merry-go-round into the kitchen.

As a child my favorite piece of playground equipment was the merry-go-round.  I would grab on, run as fast as I could, jump on, and then hang on for dear life.  Especially if the merry-go-round had the momentum of several kids giving it a go.

With every dizzying rotation it was a battle:  Gavity vs me.  Sometimes gravity won; sometimes I triumphed and stood proudly.

I don’t think much as changed about adult life.

Life Is Like A Never-Ending Merry-Go-Round

Does your life sound like this?

Alarms.  Appointments.  Meetings.  Deadlines.  Double-booked calendars.  Email and the incessant phone, tablet, and computer.  And if that isn’t enough, on average we spend an hour a week stuck in traffic.

Sometimes it’s too much.  And it feels like that little kid on the merry-go-round losing their grip, one knuckle, two knuckles, three knuckles, GONE!

Except you never really fall off.  Just down.

And the merry-go-round of life just keeps on spinning.

But there is one activity that can help:  Jump from the merry-go-round into the kitchen.

The Kitchen Is The Gateway To The Great Escape

The kitchen is the gateway to the great escape which is spending time at the table with family and friends.

When cooking is a family affair, followed by great conversation at the table you will soothe your soul.

Jump From the Merry-Go-Round Into The Kitchen

Gandhi said, “There is more to life than increasing its speed.”

Make a commitment to slow down this week, cook and share conversation at the table.

And for those of you who are single, share a meal with a friend.  When you do eat alone, don’t sit in front of the TV or the computer.  Enjoy the quiet moment.  Light a candle and savor the food.

Cooking and creating community at the table is the ultimate merry-go-round jumping off point.
